Water clarity continued to decrease at Center Station to 1.6 meters. Surprisingly, clarity at North Bay remained mostly unchanged.  This may have been due to flushing of North Bay with all the rain water we have been getting, all North Bay stations (5 had clarity better than 2 meters, all remaining stations had clarity below 2 meters, with Nic’s cove having poorest clarity at 1.4 meters.   Although the clarity declined at Center Lake by 0.4 meters the cyanobacteria numbers increased by only 4K to 60,000 cells per ml.  The Center Lake station was the only site in the lake with anoxic water on the bottom, with only the bottom 0.25m anoxic. Dissolved oxygen in bottom water at all other stations (13) was between 5 and 8 mg/L.  The percent saturation of dissolved oxygen in top couple of meters was barely supersaturated indicating that photosynthesis of cyanobacteria is still at low rates.  This is most likely due to cloudy-rainy-cool, weather we have been experiencing.  Minor to no change in surface water temperature between May 14th and May 26th supports this suggestion.  However, in the event of a calm, sunny period cyanobacteria number could increase substantially.
