Cyanos Activity September 5
Reconsider activities and limit exposure to the water.
Disclaimer: The information presented below reflects conditions throughout the lake and may differ from conditions on specific shorelines. For information regarding beach closings please contact the Torrington Area Health District or local town officials.
Water
clarity at both Center Lake and North Bay declined only slightly to 2.0 meters
at each station. Water clarity was very
uniform across the whole lake, with Secchi disk readings varying between 1.95
and 2.1 meters (14 stations). Cyanobacteria
numbers continued to increase with growth of about 50% at each station to reach
36K at Center Lake and 42K at North Bay.
Dissolved oxygen in surface water was between 8.4 mg/L and 9.4 mg/L, for
saturation levels of between 98% and 110%.
Several stations (9) had supersaturated water at the surface suggesting
that phytoplankton production was still high in those parts of the lake (mostly
northern stations). No anoxic water was
detected at any station (14) with all stations having well oxygenated water to
the bottom. Lake surface water
temperatures decreased slightly since the last visit. Water temperatures should continue to
steadily decline for the remained of the season.
